Dual credit refers to an opportunity and an agreement through which a student may earn high school credit for successfully completing a college course that covers all the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) of any specified high school course. The “dual credit” earned is BOTH college credit and high school credit for one course.

iUniversity Prep will offer students the opportunity to earn college credit for high school courses taken through the Texas Virtual School Network-TXVSN.  To qualify to take a dual credit course, the student must be an 11th or 12th grade student and the student must demonstrate college readiness by achieving the minimum passing score on a qualifying assessment instrument.  High school juniors and seniors who attend a Texas public high school and who meet at least one of the following test criteria are eligible:

• TAKS: 2200 on the math and English language arts section, and a 3 on the writing subsection
• SAT: Composite of 1070 with minimums of 500 on the critical reading and math sections
• ACT: Composite of 23 with minimums of 19 on English and math sections
• PLAN: Composite of 23 with minimums 19 on the English and math sections
• PSAT: Composite of 107 with minimums of 50 on the critical reading and math sections

Several colleges and universities serve as providers for dual credit through the TXVSN.  The University of Texas – Arlington, Lamar University, The University of Texas – Permian Basin, and Howard College are currently providers of dual credit.  Students who qualify to take a dual credit course are allowed to take up to 2 courses per semester per Texas Administrative Code 4.85.
